An Iron Age museum made it feel like we had traveled back in time as the staff demonstrated how these prehistoric people would have lived. The tour continued with a walk through the charming village of Dunkeld along the River Tay and a hike through the Hermitage.
The area across the water from the Iron Age museum is where the rabbit scene was filmed for Monty Python and the Holy Grail!

Our group, walking through the forest of the Hermitage
The village of Dunkeld. There were a lot of nice little shops to visit during our free time.
I thought the name of this pottery shop was hilarious!
St. Andrews
On our way out of the Highlands, we stopped for a good portion of the day to tour St. Andrews. Helen offered an optional group tour, while a few of us left for a few hours to explore on our own. After gift shopping for my family, I made my way to the beach, walked around the grounds of the University, and watched golfers at the Old Course.
I always appreciated how the day's itinerary would be posted in the hotel lobby, as well as emailed to us every day.
I highly recommend walking down to the beach and having lunch at the Cheesy Toast Shack. I got their classic Mac n Cheese sandwich. Very delicious! (The seagulls think so, too, so watch out!)
After boarding the bus again, we made our way to Edinburgh. We pulled over after crossing the Firth of Forth to toast our driver, Steven - since he left us after driving us to our final hotel.
Our final hotel was walking distance to Edinburgh Castle. Once again, the single accommodations were very cozy. I loved how this room came with a little kitchenette. I was able to walk to a Tesco and pick up some snacks to keep in my room.
Our final stop was the Wilde Aparthotels, Edinburgh, Grassmarket
Laundry
My trip was relatively short, compared to the multi-week Rick Steves tours, so laundry wasn't as big of an issue. After spending some time by a campfire, though, I thought it would be best to wash some clothes.
The hotels did have laundry services but, as Rick Steves mentions in his traveling tips, it is pretty easy to just wash them quick in your room. A bit of shampoo and giving them time to air dry in the shower, and I was good to go!
