About Mrs. Raddatz

After earning her bachelor's degree from Lake Superior State University in 1995, Amy Raddatz spent two years in the graduate school and teacher education program at Michigan State University, acquiring certifications in English and mathematics.  She was hired to teach English and Spanish at Merrill Junior High School in August of 1997.  In 2002, she put her career on hold to stay home with her children, Ian and Blake.  Her return to the classroom started in 2008 when she earned a master's degree in teaching English from UWSP and worked as the library media specialist and an English teacher for Newman Catholic High School in Wausau.  In 2011, she returned to Merrill High School.  Her assignments there have included teacher of English 9, English 10, AP Literature and Composition, and English 101 & 202, managing editor for the "Bluejay Beat, Student Edition," MAPS mentor coordinator, Advisor of the Travel Club, and member of the MHS Staff Skitters and Corner Karaoke Chorus.  She achieved National Board Certification in December 2019!  In 2023, she, Ms. Holt, and Mrs. Bonnell took a group of students to Greece and Italy through the school travel group Passports.  This trip will be an annual or bienial event for MHS students and families!

In her spare time, she enjoys watching her kids and her husband play sports, and playing with Stella, their Shih Tzu.  Amy has spent one week during the last seven summers grading AP essays for the College Board and National Board Certification Candidate Components, and she looks forward to many more years fulfilling those roles.  She is a rostered member of the cello section for the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, and her parents, John and Barbara Baumgartner, U.P. natives, sponsor her chair.  She believes teaching high school students is an honor and a privilege.
