Why did you join civically engaged Scholars?
I joined the Civically Engaged Scholars (CES) program because it gives me a real way to connect my love for community involvement with my future as an ASL/English interpreter. I’ve always believed that being part of a community means showing up, listening, and understanding the needs of those around you. CES gives me space to grow as an advocate, a leader, and a collaborator. The experience from CES will directly strengthen the kind of interpreter I want to be; someone who builds bridges and makes sure everyone’s voice is seen and heard.
Which Pathway are you excited to learn more about, and why?
I’m excited to work more closely with the Deaf community because it connects directly to my goals as an ASL/English interpreter. Every opportunity to engage with the community helps me better understand Deaf culture, communication preferences, and the importance of true accessibility. Through the CES program, I hope to continue building those relationships and gain experiences that will help me grow as both an interpreter and an advocate.
