Key Shifts in Math

Louisiana is calling for math instruction to be more focused per grade level. This shift will allow teachers to streamline what standards are being taught in their grade and FOCUS their attention on building those specific skills. This will lessen the stress of covering so many standards and permit teachers to teach their ss with greaterepth. Students will leave each grade with a greater understanding of the standards they have mastered.

The new changes in Louisiana’s math instruction are directly related to Common Core Standards. This shift ensures that students are building on the skills they have learned at each grade level. It also guarantees that students will have the skills they need to be successful at any grade in any state.

Rigor refers to the intensity and consistency to which we are teaching each standard to our students. In order to met their ultimate goals, students will need to become experts of each mathematical skill they are taught. This requires us to teach each skill and concept to mastery, allowing students opportunities to practice skills in a variety of situations.
