30 April 2018 The Asia-Pacific Model United Nations (AMUNC) is the largest annual Model United Nations conference within the Asia-Pacific region. The travelling academic conference brings together a tertiary-level UN simulation where participants act delegates from different countries and organisations to discuss and debate pressing international issues.
AMUNC was established in 1995 as the Australian Model United Nations and has been hosted alternately by universities in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane and Queensland. AMUNC was hosted overseas for the first time in 2007 by New Zealand’s Auckland University. In light of its success amongst the international MUN circuit, the conference changed its name in 2003 from the Australasian Model United Nations Conference to its current form. The conference has now been held at 17 universities across New Zealand and Australia. In 2015, AMUNC was held in Perth by the University of Western Australia and moved to Kuala Lumpur in 2016 when it was hosted by Taylor’s College. In 2017, The University of Hong Kong hosted the conference.
In 2018, the 24th AMUNC is headed home to Sydney for the first time in a long time and will be hosted by The University of New South Wales through the support of their United Nations Society (UNSOC) . We hope to bring together over 700 students from Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Run entirely by student volunteers and a committed Secretariat, the conference will take place over a week in July including social events and provide participants with the opportunity to meet MUN- enthusiastic peers from across the Asia-Pacific region.
Delegate Registrations are already open - apply here to avoid disappointment!
