The Australian Model United Nations Societies Association (AMUNSA) is a representative body for Model United Nations societies and conferences at a tertiary education level. Created in 2015, AMUNSA consists of a Council of society representatives and an elected Committee. AMUNSA is a deliberative forum, a platform for community projects, and a governance body.
The day-to-day work of AMUSNA is undertaken by its Cabinet, who have identified priorities this year of introducing more transparent governance structures and providing assistance to welfare and equity arrangements at domestic conferences.
There is nothing that we cannot do if we do it together. In 2018, the Executive endeavours to make AMUNSA a more responsive and responsible organisation. We're here to make Model United Nations bigger and better with your help. From supporting societies and conferences to fostering an inclusive community culture, AMUNSA is committed to making a difference.
Alice is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts/Law at the University of New South Wales. 2018 will be her third year participating in Model United Nations conferences.
As President of AMUNSA, Alice hopes to bring together a dedicated team to tackle some of the greatest challenges in the Australian Model United Nations community. While it may be difficult, she believes that the community is capable of rising up to the challenge.
Alice's faith in the community was strengthened at NCMUN 2017 where the Russian Revolution Cabinet staged a hostage prank in front of SPECPOL with herself, Goldman Sachs, as the hostage. With the assistance of another Committee, Alice counter-pranked the Russian Revolution Cabinet by planning a surprise liberation army. It is these incredible experiences that fortifies her resolve to ensure that others may enjoy the same opportunities in the future.
Vivian Lai-Tran is in her third year of a Bachelor of Law and Arts (International Relations and Philosophy) at Monash University.
Vivian has been involved in Model United Nations for a year and a half , and believes that AMUNSA can enhance the benefits that the Australian Model United Nations community can bring. Vivian ran for AMUNSA because she loves working with people in Model UN and hope to facilitate this between conferences and societies.
Vivian's favourite MUN memory is SydMUN 2016, in the World Trade Organisation, discussing intellectual property rights where delegates formed a round table during a 15 minute unmoderated caucus. The absurdity of that happening in Model UN, where 'banterous committee discord' is a staple, remains with her today.
Jesse is in his third year of International Relations at La Trobe University which makes my third year of Model United Nations.
2018 is going to be a critical year for Model UN in Australia and Jesse hopes that as VP Development he will be able to breathe some life into the community and reinvigorate it to be what he knows it can be. AMUNSA has got a lot on its plate in 2018, but Jesse knows that this great team has what it takes to tackle a huge agenda.
The moment that made Jesse fall in love with MUN was at AMUNC 2016 - his first conference - when on the IAEA we had a 5-way right of reply stack on, with North Korea, South Korea, Austria and the United States rising in offence to the rights of reply of other countries. The Australian Model United Nations community is vibrant and hilarious, and Jesse wants more people to share the great experiences we have.
Nicholas is currently studying a Combined Bachelor of Laws and Arts, Majoring in International Relations at the University of New South Wales.
Model United Nations has taken Nick all over the world, be it Canberra or New York City, and he is forever grateful for the new cultures and perspectives exposed to him along the way. As Secretary, Nick hopes to make AMUNSA a more transparent and accessible organisation for its members, as well as support efforts to provide support to Welfare and Equity Policy reform efforts.
Nick's favourite Model United Nations memory was giving a speech in the actual UN General Assembly Chamber in New York in support of a resolution implementing prevention and reporting guidelines for Sexual Exploitation and Assault.

Raushan has been involved with in Australian MUN since BrisMUN 2015, and has enjoyed the opportunities it offers to students in developing their skills whilst meeting other like-minded people. Raushan enjoys representing 'difficult' countries as she believes a non-democratic foreign policy is exciting and presents a fun challenge! Raushan also enjoys the opportunities that MUN offers (crashing a communist parade in Italy for starters, thanks to WorldMUN 2016!) and is so excited to be involved in such a passionate team aiming to help societies around Australia and improving the MUN scene as a whole
Cassie is currently the AMUNSA Wom*n’s Officer, and is studying a Juris Doctor at the University of Sydney after having completed a Bachelor of Arts.
Cassie is passionate about Britney Spears and Coffee, and fell in love with Model United Nations at the Kuala Lumpur AMUNC 2016. Cassie looks forward to fulfilling her responsibility to develop and improve the experience of wom*n identifying people within Model United Nations communities.
Cassie is thankful for such a privilege to have the opportunity to give back and support the community that she believes has given her so much.
Tuna is currently studying at the University of Melbourne’s Arts Faculty, majoring in IR and Politics. Having attended Model United Nations conferences outside of Australia consistently for over 8 years, Model United Nations has felt like home for Tuna for as long as she can remember. Tuna ran for AMUNSA in the hopes of finding a new Model United Nations family and learning more about Model United Nations culture in Australia; being part of dynamic team dedicated to tackling the challenges the Australian Model United Nations community currently faces just so happens to be a side perk of the role. A particular Model United Nations favourite memory for Tuna was when the Republic of Korea was nuclear bombed by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and FOBIMUN 2010 General Assembly Plenary’s ‘innovative’ resolution involved detailed clauses on transforming South Korea into an agrarian-based society built on radioactive croplands. Aside from the occasional pranks and laughs, the Model United Nations experience has been extremely rewarding for Tuna, and she looks forward to working with the AMUNSA team in putting forward new initiatives and reforms for 2018.
Thomas is graduated - but formerly of Swinburne University of Technology. Throughout 2017, Thomas served as the President and set about the reformation of AMUNSA. He will continue to serve as the Immediate Past President to ensure the longevity of the organisation. Thomas' favourite Model UN memory was getting to be Secretary-General at his first conference!
