Amit began his journey in Chemistry(Hons) at Hooghly Mohsin College (2010) before moving to IIT Kharagpur, where he completed his M.Sc. (2012) and Ph.D. (2018) in Chemistry. Following a brief postdoctoral appointment at IIT Kharagpur (2018), he moved to the UK and held postdoctoral research positions at Durham University (2019-2021) and the University of Liverpool (2021-2024), where he later served as a Research Coordinator (2024-2026). In May 2026, Amit returned to India as an Assistant Professor in the School of Chemical Sciences, IIT Mandi, before joining Bose Institute, Kolkata, where he is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Sciences. He also holds an appointment as an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Liverpool.

His research focuses on the design and synthesis of functional molecules for applications in optoelectronics, molecular electronics, and translational technologies. His group is particularly interested in understanding how molecular structure governs function and in developing next-generation materials for emerging electronic and photonic applications.

Outside the laboratory, Amit enjoys movies, web series, and discovering new stories. These days, however, much of his free time is happily devoted to his little daughter. Whether reading books such as 'The Gruffalo' or attempting to answer her endless stream of "why?" questions, he is constantly reminded to see the world with fresh curiosity while embracing the challenge of answering her endlessly creative and curious questions!
