Intimacy, authenticity, Open-mindedness, Curiosity, and Reflectiveness –
In my life and in my art, I try to look at things in new ways, as they really are. Both at a personal level and a macro level.
On a personal level, a big part of my process of making art is to use stories to understand the world around me and to understand myself. I hope to share those slightly different perspectives I find with my audience, in order to give a place for people to feel more connected to themselves and to others. I studied dance; therefore my art is really inspired by the human body. Everything we feel, we feel through our body, and I'm fascinated by the potential humans have for vulnerability, authenticity and intimacy. In the chaotic world of today, I wish to create a safe space for people to feel.
At a macro level, I try to look at the art field with the same critical glasses. I try to understand what limits my creativity and sabotages my ability to communicate and to connect with the audience. I try to create and share my art in different ways. I'm not interested in replicating art that already exists, I am interested in experimenting with different ways of storytelling through dance and to explore the possibilities.
I am interested in doing new things. I experiment and challenge myself to do things I haven’t done or seen before. Something that I’m not sure I can do. I tend to look at my art from the outside and wonder about the form I create in: Who are my audience? Where do I perform? What is expected from me as a performer?
I hope to surprise and break patterns and conventions in order to crack the defense mechanisms of the audience. That's why I create according to the platform, the situation, and the audience I will perform in front of. I combine genres and try to break conventions about how to share dance. That's why I also don't want to commit to one aesthetic, one topic, and a particular concentration or energy.
Because of my interest in experimenting with the unknown, I tend to work interdisciplinary and use immersive technologies as new platforms to share dance. I'm really curious to research the new possibilities immersive storytelling and interdisciplinarity can bring to my art.
I believe art is a tool for communication.
I always wish to share something with my art, to communicate with my audience. I wish to communicate with different kinds of audiences. To offer them a gentle and different way to look at the world. As a human, in my art I'm busy with humans. As a human, I'm constantly busy in trying to understand myself better. Understanding what I feel, and what I think I am supposed to feel. Why do I feel things, and the complexity of my feelings. In my art I try to dare to share part of it in an authentic and vulnerable way, using images, thoughts, and sensations. In my art, I am often busy with inner dialogs -Communicating with the different selves and sides I'm made out of. I look for the personal things that are global, and that everyone can relate to.
I believe dance can communicate really well the idea we are all humans and therefore everyone experiences life, everyone has a vulnerable body. We all live in a society that often makes us feel we are not good as we should be, we all wish to feel good, and we are all too busy, to connect with our emotions.
I believe that sharing vulnerability can help people connect to their own emotions. I wish to make people think about how they are doing. In the capitalist profit-based society we live in, I wish to open space for people to wander and feel. A space where they can feel ok with not feeling ok.
