This public conversation features Katie Troyer interviewed by JB Miller. JB interviews Katie about her early years, her struggles as a young Amish woman in Ohio, and her decision to move to Pinecraft. They also discuss the role that photography has played in her life and the way she wants to portray the Pinecraft community through her photographs.
Katie Troyer is one of the most beloved personalities in the Pinecraft community. She grew up in an Amish family in Ohio and after living in various Amish communities in the US and Canada she moved to Pinecraft in 2008. Having been born a “little person,” (a term she often uses), she found Pinecraft to be a welcoming community where she is accepted and valued. One of the roles she plays here is that of an unofficial photographer of the community. Through her photographs, which she collects on an annual calendar, and on her popular Instagram account @pinecraftsquirrel, Katie shows her perspective on the daily life of the unique Amish and Mennonite community in Sarasota.
