In Sarasota, Florida, it is common to see members of the Amish and Mennonite community. You can see Amish families riding their bikes while wearing their traditional attire, eating ice cream at Yoder’s, or playing shuffleboard at the local park. Most are visitors for the winter months while a small number live here year round. They all settle in the small neighborhood of Pinecraft.
Through public talks and a photography exhibition, organized in Spring 2023 by New College of Florida, this series explored different aspects of life in Pinecraft through the eyes of local residents and historians, as well as understanding this Sarasota community in the landscape of the Amish across the United States today.
