As a dedicated civil engineering instructor with a primary area of expertise in structural engineering and a research focus on community resilience, my long-term career goal is to train civil engineering students who are not only qualified and adept at designing and constructing safe and decent structures but also cognizant of their social and ethical responsibility in enhancing disaster resilience and sustainability, and for them to act accordingly. My teaching philosophy leans towards student-centered teaching approaches rather than teacher-centered ones. The central tenet of my teaching philosophy is that expertise is cultivated through ample practice and implementation of fundamentals, an approach that traditional lecture-style classrooms often fail to provide due to time constraints. I believe in fostering an active learning environment in my classrooms and ensuring inclusive teaching excellence by providing students with learning opportunities through a purposeful and cohesive course design.
