Reflective Practice
Reflective Practice
To start, I found that having to reflect on my personal values in relation to societal and social work values to be of utmost importance in recognizing my identity, my lived experiences, and my privilege. When I went through the ways of knowing, it meant delving deep into the core of why I do the things I do, reflecting on the thought processes' that have led me to this moment in time. Dewey mentions not taking things at face valuing and when reading over the 'authority' way of knowing, it starkly reminded me of how easily and quickly we are able to just believe what someone says because of preconceived notions and established context. I'm glad this assignment made me look at opposing views to this issue because I was stuck on my views, on my ways and could not see anything good in this issue and even considering that made me feel weird and incongruence because it felt like that meant I was agreeing with the people who are actively working against my community and those with similar experiences as me and it felt fake, but I realized that with growth and understanding comes new perspectives and discomfort, so I learned to embrace the new perspective and possibility of this issue.
