The Infamous Fallout of Tara and Raven out today!

July 14, 2023

Today marks the official release date of the long-awaited film, titled The Infamous Fallout of Tara and Raven! It is a project that has been in the works for several years now, and now, it has been finally released to the public! It has had a long history of production delays, setbacks, but despite the difficult road, we now have a fully finished project that will officially become Amethyst Studio's first ever feature short film!

Before we get started, let's go over the history of the production of this film, as well as the way it shapes Amethyst Studios' official foundation point for more potential projects!

Production History

When it comes to producing films as a student, you want to take baby steps. Make short films, and then make big shows and movies in the long run! The cast and crew definitely learned this the hard way, when it came to this.

The movie itself was originally supposed to be a web series/TV show called "Goffik Gurlz", a story that centers the My Immortal and YouTube gothic duo Tara and Raven. Although both Tara and Raven duos were completely separate people, they were combined into one character. Along with that was the supporting cast of characters that served as their friends or acquaintances, with them being Azer, the prep from the YouTube channel, whom they met at the anime table during lunch, and even Britney, the girl from Chapter 16 of My Immortal, who supposedly taught Tara Japanese words. The plot of the show was to have the characters be outcast gothic characters in the mid 2000s, during the peak of the Mall Goth era, with very stereotypical elements that separated the social groups at school. It was kind of like the Wednesday series on Netflix, where the main character is a goth girl, surrounded by weirdos, and changes things with her weirdness. Coincidentally, this series was planned several years before Wednesday came out and became very popular.

Anyway, this is what was supposed to happen. But when scripts were being written, with a whole series planned, there were real world problems too. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented people from going out, especially young filmmakers and students, which caused in production delays.

Around the time it was filmed, in June-July 2021, the pandemic's restrictions were starting to loosen up a bit. People were starting to slowly, but steadily, go back outside. However, there was still caution about the virus, so not everyone was out of their houses yet. There have been some scripts already written, though only partially. This is what was filmed. There is also other un-seen footage, that we felt like didn't fit into the final cut.

While there have been flyers posted around campus about the production, with several responses and scenes already shot, there was unfortunately not enough time nor cast and crew to help make the entire a series a possibility. Then again, it was a huge project, in the long run, that required much more time.

However, if there has been some good footage filmed, even as a scrapped series, why should this potential story go to waste and left in the editing room? This is where this movie comes into play. Instead of waiting to make it into a web series, as originally planned, we used the footage we did have and edited it into this 15 minute feature length film called "The Infamous Fallout of Tara and Raven". The film consisted of a flowing plot that contained the footage we already shot, but edited together to create a story that made sense without having to make an entire series out of it.

About the Movie

The movie itself is a short film, around 15 minutes long. The cast includes Ashley Adamian, Alicia Celestine, Rynn Brown, Kan Seamount, and Kaylen Blankenship.

The plot is based off Tara and Raven's iconic sweater/poster drama that is mentioned in My Immortal Chapters 15-16. When Tara steals Raven's poster of Gerard Way, Raven ends up stealing Tara's sweater. In result, the two girls have a horrible fall-out and temporarily stop being friends. Since Raven usually edited Tara's chapters, she stopped editing them, resulting in the story's grammar and spelling errors becoming a whole lot worse afterwards. In the movie, Tara struggles with making her story good and consistent.

In this Goffik Gurlz universe, Britney is an anime fanatic, who is well known among the social group of anime preps. Tara, despite her hatred for preps, decides to go to Britney for help, and in return, she teaches her Japanese words. This is shown in Chapter 16 when Tara writes in the Author's Notes: BTW fangz 2 britney5655 4 techin muh japnese!

Other supporting characters include Britney's anime prep friend, Azer. They are a part of the YouTube character lore, and is mentioned to have supposedly met Tara and Raven "at the anime table at lunch", and was even believed to be a prep. Although they are goth, they have been caught going to the prep store known as Hollister. In this universe, Azer is friends with Britney, as they are both anime fans, and later befriends Tara and Raven. We get a little more scenes of the anime preps, in a filler scene that includes two other anime prep characters. And fun fact, Ashley Adamian, who plays Tara, also plays the purple-haired anime prep named Rose Amethyst, who even had her own character and lore before the series was scrapped!

Anyway, without spoiling the plot of the movie, Tara and Raven's poster/sweater drama drives the main plot of the film, creating a fun little adventure, despite the series being scrapped.

Conclusion

As a starter film, we think this is something people will definitely enjoy. We had a lot of fun shooting the now-cancelled series on set, with the makeup and costume design that we feel very proud of. We feel that it was appropriate to kickstart our production company with a film like this, hoping it will pave the way for more films in the future!
