"It amazes me sometimes that, no matter how many stories I write, no matter the circumstances, the lesson is always Love."
– Amelia Cates
Blessed Assurance
is a story of homecoming, faith and forgiveness.
Haven’t we all sworn at one time or another
that we would never go back "there" again?
Whatever it was. Wherever it was.
We were done with that chapter of our lives
until something happens that puts it all in a
new light. Maybe in spite of ourselves
we take a deep breath and walk right back
through that door we had closed forever.
Will it be different this time?
Everything is different when seen through
a new lens at another time.
What was absolutely certain
is not so certain anymore.
O Come Angel Band
It was love at first sight. How could it
have been anything else? She had never seen anyone quite like him before and her —
well, they say she drove him crazy, but it was
not involuntary on his part.
Love stories are that way sometimes.
Fighting like cats and dogs one minute,
rattling the walls with unbridled passion the next.
I thought I could never wish for anything
like it but the memory can still
stop my heart cold— him playing his fiddle.
Her dancing with her skirt hiked up,
just a little bit drunk. I was blessed
to be right where I wanted to be.
Heaven on earth with hell to pay—
it’s what dreams are made of.
A Crooked Tree
is an homage to girls who simply
cannot walk the straight and narrow.
Rose Langdon took great pride in
her free-spirited reputation.
Her grandmother told her
she was simply born that way—
and she should certainly know!
Martin Wainwright came along
and, for a while, their love soared.
Slowly she discovered that
what he loved he also hated.
Finally she realized
some things are simply not meant to be.
Dreaming in Daylight
is a cautionary tale that can be
summed up by an old saying:
Be careful what you wish for.
Some people seem to almost fall into
good luck. They are blessed in ways that
may make others, even themselves, believe
they deserve it. They become self-centered
and what they want is all that matters.
Some might see it as entitlement and,
not so secretly, they may agree.
But what if there is another side to the story?
A price to be paid they discover only after
it is too late? Maybe just when they think
they are untouchable it all falls apart: In ways
they could never have seen coming.
Suddenly the dream becomes the nightmare.
Milo’s Mountain
is a story about love and forgiveness.
It is also a story about community
and a perfect life.
Lauren and her sister Valerie grew up together
on this magical mountain just outside Hiddenite,
North Carolina where their grandfather
talked to his younger brother Milo in the stars.
Now Lauren is the latest occupant of the simple
white farmhouse she loves with all her heart.
She and husband Charlie are raising their girls there along with flowers and honey bees .
They love nothing better than when fairy Aunt Val
comes to visit, carrying wonderful gifts
in her enchanted red suitcase.
“We all, at one time or another, talk to stars.”
— Amelia Cates
MO AND MOLLY
is a love story about two cosmic vagabonds
doing their best to stay the course.
This is not the way it was supposed
to be, but that makes little difference now.
They are left to make the best of things
as people often are and share a wisdom
neither of them fully understands.
It is a wisdom of the heart,
a knowing that just is.
There is no logic.
This wisdom defies logic,
born of a sorrow they did not expect.
They see the world through a different lens
where even the smallest things
are now precious.
SISTERHOOD
is a coming of age story
about how we stumble in and out
of each other’s lives, sisters maybe from
another mother, but at least for a time
sisters just the same.
It is also about the thin line
between love and hate.
There is not a hint of indifference
for that would be unnatural --
at least for these characters.
There is only room for love or hate.
You may suspect, as with most sisters,
it is likely to be a story about both.
Sometimes it’s nice to go back
and re-visit memories made and old friends
that once captured our imagination.
Collected Stories: A Second Look
is this author’s way of doing just that.
Taken some of her most popular stories
and well-loved characters,
she has collected them into this one volume
that allows her and her readers
to take a literary stroll down memory lane.
In addition, she has included some
brand new stories to sweeten the mix.
So grab your glass of iced tea,
pull out your cozy throw
and settle into your favorite easy chair
for some comfortable reading
— Southern style.
