Honors College Projects
I am an honors student at IU Indianapolis
For my first semester in the Honors College, I completed an honors contract. I wanted to create a website that would allow people with Down Syndrome to have access to fitness information and knowledge of safe ways to stay physically active. This was different than any project I had ever done before, it was a good experience to be able to come up with something that I believe is an issue or lacking and to find a solution to help others. I had never created a website before working on the ePortfolio, it was a new skill that I was able to practice when creating this fitness website. (Fall 2022)
In Life Span Developmental Psychology, I found myself interested in how children have different moral understanding at different ages. It is often said when a young child does something wrong that, “they just don’t understand” or “they didn’t mean that” but what is the age when children really do start to understand that their actions can affect others? That is the question that I tried to answer when writing this research paper. I used research and experiences of my own with working with children to explain the moral development in children as they age. (Spring 2023)
In W140 I was able to improve upon my writing as a whole and learn how to learn from others. In this class I wrote many drafts and received feedback from both classmates and my professor on how they thought I would be able to improve and how I excelled in certain parts of the drafts. I learned how to use others feedback to further improve my papers and writing experience. I also worked to give others in my class feedback on their own papers to try to help them improve on their work as well. After taking this class I feel like my drafting style and ability to accept others feedback and assistance has improved. (Fall 2023)
In Exercise Physiology I was given the challenge of finding a topic to research and present. I found an interest in the effects of therapies for stroke survivors. It is shocking to me that many people do not get the therapies that so many studies prove to be helpful. I was able to learn a new way of presenting information, I am not usually a fan of presentations, but the video format was much easier to be happy with than an in-person presentation. I liked that this project allowed me to be creative in the way I show the information that I gathered. This has definitely helped improve my communication skills by making me think about my words to make sure that I am presenting the information in a clear way so others will be able to understand. (Spring 2024)
In KINE - P 374 I wrote a research paper about the creation of the automated external defibrillator and the internal cardiac defibrillator. I found that I really enjoyed researching this topic and learning about this technology of cardiac care. It is amazing to me what was learned and created in just the last 200 years. It also amazes me what humans didn't know not that long ago. Things that we now understand and know about cardiac care were unknown and experimental when this technology was being developed. I also think it is important to note and think about that articles and studies only include so much information and are very specific to a certain area. When doing my research, it was hard to include every advancement that I wanted to because there were so much research and improvements happening all around the world. I tried to make sure that my information that I gathered reached further than the borders of the United States because of this. (Fall 2024)
In sports psychology I found that I see a lot of different motivation tactics used at my job as a rehabilitation technician. For my honors contract I chose to present motivation tactics that I see and use at work related to what we learned about motivation in this class. This project was really fun to work on because it combined two things that I was interested in, psychology and my job. I liked being able to share information about what I do at work and relate it to the topics that I am learning at school. I learned that it is easy for me to present information when I am really interested in the topic. (Spring 2025)
For my honors contract in KINE-P 391, I completed an experiment on how different carrying strategies affect gait. I measured gait by difference in stride length and knee angles when compared to baseline results where the subject is not carrying anything. I had multiple subjects and trials, to ensure that the results were true and each carrying strategy was properly recorded. Using different carrying strategies showed how weight distributed further and closer to the persons center of mass affects their gait. To summarize all of my findings I wrote an experiment report displaying all my findings on my experiment. (Fall 2025)
For my final honors experience, I chose to count my internship I completed for KINE- P 393 for honors credit. I worked on many projects over the semester and improved upon my professional skills. Working in this professional setting has given me the chance to observe and learn from the therapists that I work with every day. To showcase my experience, I created an entire page on my ePortfolio dedicated to the work and projects I completed at K1ds Count Therapy. This was such an amazing experience, and I am happy to share my projects and skill development that I have gotten over the semester. (Spring 2026)
