detailed Itinerary

We have put together an itinerary below that offers leader-led hikes and/or activities each day. You can venture off on your own, as long as you let us know the night before what you are planning on doing. Although there is a “plan” each day, we want everyone to feel comfortable making suggestions. We are all different people with varied expectations, but hopefully our goals for this trip are similar.

Most of the days we will have two hike options since we have 3 leaders. Some days we will do the same hike but split into two groups with varying degrees of difficulty and pace. Due to bear safety we will need to stay together in one of those two groups. Please be patient as there may be many stops for snacks, hydration and clothing adjustments.

Each night we will have a brief meeting with everyone. This may take place at dinner or right after dinner. At least one person from each family should plan to attend. If you decide you do not wish to participate in the planned activity, let us know that night and you will need to sign a separation agreement per AMC policy. There are 6 rental vehicles, so there may be some flexibility in taking a car if needed.

All hikes and activities are contingent upon weather conditions and bear activity. Please be flexible as our plans may need to change.

Tuesday, June 21 - Calgary to Lake Louise

  • Arrival into Calgary (see the Arrival section) and drive to Lake Louise.

  • There are no set activities for the first day. Dinner will be at the Lake Louise Inn in the Legends Restaurant between 6:00 and 8:00pm. You can venture down whenever you wish and present a voucher for dinner. Your voucher includes an appetizer, main and dessert from a limited group dinner menu. Alcohol is not included.

  • Group meeting ~8:30pm in a location TBD. Meet in the lobby and we will try to find a place outside to go. Please try to all be there so we can do some quick introductions. We will have to squeeze in!

Accommodations: Lake Louise Inn, 210 Village Road, Lake Louise

Meal notes: If you didn’t get a chance to eat lunch on your flight, there are numerous restaurants on the road going from the airport to Lake Louis, as well as a large Safeway grocery store just on the outskirts of Calgary. There is also a Safeway in Canmore. If you decide not to stop at either Safeway you can purchase lunch items at the Village Market in Lake Louise. It is the only game in town, but it does have a fairly good selection of lunch items except for fruit. The Village Market is located in the Sampson Mall, a large plaza 2 minutes from the Inn. You can also purchase sandwiches at Laggan’s Mountain Bakery or the Trailhead Cafe, located in the same plaza, or request a packed lunch from the Inn.

Wednesday, June 22 - FULL DAY AT Lake Louise

Lake Louise, Lake Agnes and the Plain of Six Glaciers

Soaring peaks, glaciers and scenic lakes are the hallmarks of this classic hike visiting the main attractions in the Lake Louise Valley; Lake Agnes, the Big Beehive and the Plain of the Six Glaciers. It's 2.2 miles one way up switchbacks to Lake Agnes and the Tea House, 3.3 miles up to Big Beehive, or 11.2 miles (loop) to the Plain of Six Glaciers for anyone ambitious enough to do the entire trip. The Plain of Six Glaciers can also be reached directly by hiking along the flat Shoreline Trail around Lake Louise. Canoe rentals are also available at the lake, and it is always great to enjoy an ice cream after making this popular trek.
