In August 1958, it was realized by four very enthusiastic Jouster's that a Club had to be formed to encourage the amateur rider. With the fun of Jousting as the major foundation. Jousting has been a part of Maryland since it was just a colony. Jousting tournaments were a way to raise money for churches and communities. Everyone coming together to watch rider and horse teams compete. Now a days we still compete; this entails horse and rider to charge down an 80-yard track trying to spear 3 suspended rings with a lance.
Amateur Jousting Club has a wonderful home track located at
Jerusalem Mill Village. A part of Gunpowder State Park
this historic village has lots to offer most things are free to do and
make for a great family outing.

We gather horse and rider to test our skill and horsemanship. The rider must pass through an 80-yard track of three arches. A ring of various sizes hangs to be speared by the rider’s lance. Some classes must do all of this in 9 second or less! All equipment is handmade and some passed down through generations. A complete set of jousting rings consists of 28 rings. Seven different sizes ranging from one quarter inch in diameter to one and three-quarter inches in diameter. A quarter inch is roughly the size of a candy life saver, with only the best jouster able to spear the ring.
Our nonprofit Club runs on donations and self support of the club tournament's. We are 501 c-7 Nonprofit. Allowing our organization to focus on member enjoyment, activities and preserving the sport of jousting.
