Project Description

• For this project, I was tasked with locating and presenting instances of information security incidents as covered in media reports.

This article discusses a major event that occurred in 2013 at Target. Target is a major U.S. retail company, and it suffered a data breach during the holiday shopping season of 2013 where Hackers gained access to the credit and debit card information of about 40 million customers and the personal information of 70 million customers.

Yahoo ( 2013 - 2014) Data Breach 

This article discusses how Yahoo experienced a series of data breaches between 2013 and 2014, affecting over 3 billion user accounts. The breaches experienced included the theft of user data such as names, email addresses, passwords, and security questions.

LESSON LEARNED 

• I was honestly shocked to see that there were a lot more information security issues mentioned in the news than I had anticipated. Additionally, I learned a lot of new concept on  phishing , social engineering , ransomware , and malware while working on this project, which broadened my knowledge of the subject. I will definitely be applying the tools I have learned here for future purposes
