I am a current Senior in the BS/MS Occupational Therapy program at Dominican University of California (DU). Throughout my time at Dominican, I hope to maintain a good GPA, which is currently a 4.0. I am striving to graduate with Honors in 2023 and I plan to earn my Master's degree in Occupational Therapy in 2024. I enjoy working with others and hope to continue being involved on campus throughout my time at Dominican.
During my second semester of my first year at Dominican I was hired to supervise recreational volleyball on campus. I really enjoy working with DU students and this opportunity has allowed me to build on so many relationships throughout my years at Dominican. I really appreciate how this job has allowed me to continue a passion of my own, playing volleyball, while engaging with my peers.
While serving with the Ritter Center I got to interact with the homeless and those who are struggling financially in Marin County. As a volunteer I would help clients by grabbing the food items they wanted and bagging them. I would also help to restock shelves whenever supply was running low. During my time at the Ritter Center, I learned to see past the sign systems around being homeless and the negative stereotype that all homeless are "dangerous." Overall, helping out at the Ritter Center has been such a great experience and I hope to be apart of more service learning courses in the future!
Presentation on past redlining policies and how they have impacted, Women Helping All People, my community partner.
By serving with WHAP I have been able to understand a lot more about Golden Gate Village and the residents living there. A majority of the tenants are African American and living below the poverty line, and by being present in this community I have been able to gain a much more memorable experience. I was able to work with the children during class time and I was able to spend time with them during their breaks. I had no idea about some of the current conditions of their classroom setting and their limited access to specific educational tools until I saw it for myself. By getting close and interacting with the individuals in this community, I have learned about some of the ways that they have faced inequality.
