The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
This flip lesson is intended to be viewed by students before being taught the material in a formal class setting. The lesson contains a four-minute video lesson on pronouns that demonstrates the value of pronouns and how they are used in the place of pronouns. This lesson articulates the relationship between pronouns and their antecedents. By giving example sentences, the lesson teaches which pronouns are used for certain nouns. For example, "Michael" corresponds to the pronoun "he." After watching the video lesson, students must take the corresponding pronouns quiz. By taking this quiz, the teacher will know if the students understand the material and can apply it to new examples. This lesson was produced in November of 2019 for my Technology in Education class as an assignment to learn how to create a video lesson and a corresponding quiz. I also learned how technology can be used to create lessons and enhance student learning.
This lesson plan shows evidence of understanding of Standard 5 because this teaching strategy "uses technology to accomplish differentiated instructional objectives that enhance learning for each student" (5N), one of the performance indicators of Standard 5. This lesson is a video lesson intended to introduce a new concept to the students. This method supports "critical and creative thinking" because the students must complete the assignment of the new concept before meeting together in a formal class setting. The lesson is also created to allow students to rewatch parts that were confusing to them. Additionally, this lesson allows me as a teacher to "monitor and adjust strategies in response to feedback from the student" (5J). After students complete the short quiz the accompanies the lesson, I will be able to see how well the students understand the material. Therefore, I can prepare future lessons to review the material and retouch on parts of the lesson that were confusing to the students.
Through this project, I learned that switching up the way the material is presented encourages academic growth. The video lesson is especially useful because it allows students to go back and watch the parts they did not grasp right away. The quiz results provide the teacher with feedback on how well the students understand the material. It can help the teacher prepare for the next day and know what to review and emphasize. As a future teacher, lessons like these are important and useful for all students and are a great study and review tool. I would like to implement these for my class someday because I believe they are academically beneficial.

I created these rooms during Covid season while schools were teaching virtually. Kids can log into their school's learning site (Google classroom, Seesaw, etc) and click on the link to their teacher's virtual classroom or library. Bitmoji classroom make online learning a bit more "real" because they use their teacher's figure. Teachers can even create their virtual classroom to look just like their physical classroom. The way this works is that teachers put objects in their virtual classroom that the students click on to take them to YouTube videos, read-alouds, educational activities, or articles to read. The same works with the virtual library. Kids can click on the books in the library, and this takes them to a YouTube read-aloud of the story, since kids (at the time) were unable to access the physical library.
Illinois teaching standard 5 - Knowledge Indicator 5C says that a competent teacher "knows how to implement effective differentiated instruction through the use of a wide variety of materials, technologies, and resources." This virtual classroom is created primarily for students who are sick and miss school. I can upload virtual homework for them to complete. The virtual classroom can also be used if in-person learning is ever cancelled for a time. The virtual library gives students a variety of books to read, especially if the school's library or classroom library does not have many options. Performance Indicator 5N says that a competent teacher "uses technology to accomplish differentiated instructional objectives that enhance learning for each student." The world is becoming more and more technologically advanced, and it is important to prepare our students for that. The virtual classroom and library give them an introduction to using Google Slides, ebooks, completing online modules, and researching information.
