Science time!! This is from an experiment I did with my first grade class. We were learning about penguins and their blubber, a layer of fat that keeps them warm in the Arctic temperatures. Each student had to dip their bare hand into icy water for ten seconds. Next, they would dry off their hands and put on the blubber glove and dip their hands into the water for ten seconds. They learned that the blubber kept their hands WAY warmer!
At my first student teaching placement, grades 1-4 celebrated Dr. Seuss day! We dressed up as a character from a Dr. Seuss book. Most kids dressed as Thing 1 & 2 or the Cat in the Hat. We also had a Fox in Socks, Cindy Lou Who, Sally, Sam I Am, and Lorax characters. The first and third grade students were put into small groups so the third graders could read Dr. Seuss books to the first graders. After reading, the two classes made a Thing 1 or 2 craft.
