Growing up I forged many bonds with the concept of history. I grew up in an old house that had a lot of history. I grew up near the oldest city in the United States. I grew up in an intergenerational household.
Over the years I encountered history in many ways. I would travel to different historical sites all over Florida and North Carolina, learning from the adults in my life about our local history. I was fortunate enough to visit Europe on a trip with my Mother and Grandfather when I was only 12 years old. We toured Italy, Greece, and Turkey and I fell in love with the rich sense of permanence that the ancient sites held.
Growing up I was always a Science-Fiction fan and one of my favorite TV Shows was Stargate SG-1. This show features a bumbling archaeologist who uses his skills to decipher ancient languages and commune with new cultures. I learned to love anthropology from this.
Like many young people, I had trouble choosing a major. There are so many interesting things to learn about; anthropology, religion, philosophy, and history. Finally, I settled on history due to my career goals. I have always wanted to be a teacher, of any age, and teaching about history just makes sense.
Though much of my life is consumed with thoughts of the past, I am also looking towards the future for myself. I hope to become an effective and influential educator that helps guide young minds through the understanding of the intricacies of the past,
