We redesigned needleless connectors to have more ergonomic and grip-friendly surfaces, removed the small creases to improve ease of sanitization, and introduced self sterilizing caps.
Needleless connectors are tools attached to catheters such as Central Venous Lines to allow for the easy insertion of drugs and fluids. These tools have drastically reduced needlestick injuries for nurses, but are difficult to hold, sanitize, and sterilize.
My team interviewed medical professionals to identify key areas where they struggled with needleless connectors. We designed several concepts to address those pain points and built simple feasibility prototypes. We created a final full-scale model of the redesigned connectors in Fusion 360.
