AAFH Classroom Designers

The Always Ask for Help Classroom is a mobile learning resource designed for adults like Arnie who may feel anxious about asking for help. Accessible from a smartphone, it connects learners with live reading support, the Always Ask for Help audiobook, and interactive lessons based on everyday situations such as grocery shopping, banking, ordering in restaurants, and following GPS directions.

Built on the Science of Reading and interactive learning strategies, the classroom provides practical, real-world support that helps learners build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and access help whenever and wherever they need it.

The Always Ask for Help (AAFH) Classroom is a collaborative learning initiative involving UMass Boston volunteer instructional designers. Together, they are developing engaging educational resources that support adult learners while advancing the mission of Always Ask for Help.

The AAFH Classroom is built on the belief that everyone involved should also be learning. As part of the project, volunteers work alongside educators, literacy experts, and project leaders to apply instructional design principles, collaborate with a purpose, and gain real-world experience that extends beyond the classroom.

This scholar-practitioner model reflects the heart of our mission: creating meaningful learning experiences for both the adults who use these resources and the designers who create them. Through collaboration, service, and innovation, the AAFH Classroom demonstrates how education can transform lives for learners and educators alike.
