Hi, I'm Alvaro
I'm an experimental filmmaker and video artist, working at the intersection of low-resolution aesthetics and contemporary moving image practices. I'm a founding member of the video art collective Haz! and an associate at AVAM (Asociación de Artistas Visuales de Madrid).
My academic foundation includes a Bachelor's degree in Media Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid (2006), studies in Film Production at Brighton Film School (2008), and a Ph.D. in Film Analysis, Criticism, and Documentation from the Complutense University of Madrid (2016).
I specialize in low-resolution video work, exploring the creative possibilities of constraint and compression. My films have received recognition including Best Original Idea at the First MovilFilmFest for Centrífuga (2007), Best Video Award at Movilfilmfest Tenerife and Best Short Film at Urban TV for Myriad (2012), and two Minute Movie Cup awards for Onírica (2009) and Quinta habitación (2006), both representing Spain at the UNICA World Minute Movie Cup.
My work has been exhibited internationally at venues including Ars Electronica (Austria), Hanshan Art Museum and Taicang Art Museum (China), Kuala Lumpur International Film Awards (Malaysia), Ibrida Festival (Italy), FILE and Mobilefest (Brazil), Interface (Croatia), Phoenix Arts and Ephemere (UK), On Art (Poland), NYC Electroacoustic Music Festival (US), Medialab Madrid, Galería Cruce, Fundación Francisco Godía, Espacio Menos Uno, NIU Espai Artístic Contemporani, and MEM Bilbao (Spain), among others.
