Chrome Browser Extensions & Add-Ons

Chrome Browser Extensions

These operate in the entire Chrome Browser

    1. TabScissors - take 2 tabs that you want to see at the same time, and instantly give each of them 50% of the screen
    2. TabGlue - put them back together in one window
    3. Grammarly - like a spell-check, but for grammar
    4. Read/Write for Google - hear text in Google Docs read aloud, among other features
    5. Screencastify - make a video and audio recording of your screen, including your voice
    6. Yellow Highlighter Pen for Web (marker.to) - Annotate and highlight text online

Optional:

    • EasyBib - when researching, easily keep track of sources or a bibliography
    • DF YouTube (Distraction Free) - one of several extensions that hides the extra ads and content on YouTube, so you can focus on the video you're trying to learn from. Turn Out the Lights is another one.
    • Mercury Reader - cuts away the clutter from web pages
    • TLDR - summarizes web pages (stands for "Too Long Didn't Read")
    • Open Dyslexic - changes the format of text on a website so that it’s easier to read for people with dyslexia
    • Awesome Screenshot - take screenshots of the screen, part of the screen, or the entire browser page (Shift-Ctrl-Switcher is good for most things though)

Google Drive Add-Ons

These are like extensions, but for specific file types.

Google Docs Add-Ons

A Google Doc Add-On must be installed to a specific Google Doc. Then it will be accessible from any of your Google Docs. Here's a good example:

There are many more. Find them by going to the Add-Ons menu in a Google Doc.

Google Sheets Add-Ons

A Google Sheet Add-On must be installed to a specific Google Sheets file. Find them by going to the Add-Ons menu in a Google Sheet.

Google Slides Add-Ons

A Google Slides Add-On must be installed to a specific Google Slides file. Find them by going to the Add-Ons menu in a Google Slides file. Here's a good example:

  • Unsplash Photos - Insert free, HD photos from Unsplash easily in any Slides presentation.

Google Forms Add-Ons

A Google Forms Add-On must be installed to a specific Google Form. Find them by going to the Add-Ons menu in a Google Form. Here are some good examples:

  • Choice Eliminator 2 - As people fill out your form, this add-on prevents respondents from choosing the same answer as each other. This is particularly useful when signing up for appointment times, or when students are choosing topics for an assignment, and you want everyone to have a different topic.
  • formRecycler - Recycle questions from other Forms in your Drive by selecting them in the Sidebar!
  • CheckItOut - Use this to check out books, Chromebooks, cameras, or other equipment. This add-on moves the item between an "In" and "Out" list.
