This event included sessions or presentations on topics of closing the attainment gap on an individual basis or targeted at specific groups like BAME, disability, mature students, distance learners or more. The 'learning technology' aspect could be anything from a diversified reading list or accessibility tech, personalised learning on the VLE, teaching space, virtual group working, authentic assessment etc. - basically anything that helps equalise student attainment.
Presenting a Culturally-inclusive assessment toolkit
Consider the value of students as partners in the creation of learning resources. • Evaluate the degree to which they are being culturally-inclusive when designing and developing assessments for international students. • Apply tools from the CIAT toolkit to enhance their own practice.
personalised learning
How to use social media in teaching and learning
Using screencasts to support distance learners
How screencasts, as a cheap and simple technological solution, have been used to support distance learners to overcome a range of barriers they face; to consider how they might be used in other educational contexts.
Supporting students with disabilities through 'any time any place' learning
The audience will gain an understanding of issues students with a range of disabilities may face in accessing learning materials, and will be shown an example of how some of these issues have been addressed within my 'home' school - examples of good practice will be shared and the audience will be challenged to think how they could proactively ensure that their own practice is emancipatory.
How Blackboard Ally is your equality leveller
Using Blackboard Ally and impact on staff / students
Showcasing Scenario and Skill based Panopto
How we have been using Panopto videos with quizzing function in the Healthcare VLE (in particular, Midwifery) to facilitate off site reinforcement of teaching and revision with a focus on critical thinking, reflection and decision making. The functionality of the Panopto platform allows for students who do not thrive in face to face, simulated scenario teaching for a variety of reasons (including learning differences, mature students etc) to still engage with learning materials and develop a self reflective learning style, as well as developing confidence in the scenarios given. The platform is also allowing for lecturers to review the level of engagement with the scenarios, trends around where understanding is lacking and target individualised learning where necessary. It is anticipated that the growing bank of videos and quizzes to support units across the midwifery curriculum will improve student attainment and to this we will be looking to research the impact of the platform.
How inclusive is collaborative working?
The session will give consideration to some of the benefits and issues of collaborative learning with specific reference to inclusive learning.
Facilitating inclusivity: at the source
They will come away with a look at the ARU accessible templates and how efforts to learn, teach and assess inclusively begin with simple changes.
Accessible content on Canvas
This lightning strike will demonstrate the use of accessible templates and checkers in both Canvas pages and uploaded Microsoft Office files can improve inclusivity for your students.
