Varenna is a lovely small town with serene views of the Lake Como and many shops and restaurants. We checked into the Hotel Olivedo and cleaned up to explore the town. I took note that almost all the ladies were wearing dresses on this hot summer day! I changed out of my travel clothes and donned a dress as well. We enjoyed an ice coffee drink and later some gelato to cool down in the extreme heat.
We could see there was a storm moving in with some dramatic clouds forming. We found ourselves caught in a bit of it while having an Aperol Spritz at the bar at Hotel Royal Victoria, a classy hotel with a prime view of the lake.
As the storm cleared, we settled onto our private patio with a bottle of house wine from the hotel. We drank in the fresh cool evening along with the tranquil view of Lake Como and our wine.
