🕌 Al-Murshid (المرشد) — Privacy Policy

Summary: Al-Murshid does not have its own servers or databases. We do not create user accounts. Your app settings and progress are stored locally on your device. Your location coordinates are shared with third-party services (OpenWeatherMap, OpenStreetMap, BigDataCloud, TimeAPI.io) to provide weather, nearby mosques, city detection, and timezone data. Google AdMob is used for advertising and may collect device identifiers and ad interaction data.

1. Data We Collect

We (the developer) do not collect any personal data. We do not operate servers or databases. However, the app contains third-party services that may collect data as described below.

• No account required — you never sign up or log in

• No proprietary analytics — we do not use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or any first-party tracking

• No data stored by us — we have no servers, databases, or cloud storage

2. Data Collected by Third-Party Services

Al-Murshid uses the following third-party services that may receive data from your device:

Google AdMob (Advertising)

Al-Murshid displays ads through Google AdMob. The AdMob SDK embedded in the app may collect:

• Device advertising ID

• IP address (for approximate location-based ads)

• Device information (model, OS version, screen size)

• Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks, views)

• App usage data related to ad display

This data is collected directly by Google's SDK, not by us. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Opt out of personalized ads: Device Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization.

Location-Based Services

When you grant location permission (or select a city manually), your coordinates may be sent to:

• OpenWeatherMap — receives your lat/lng to return weather data (privacy policy)

• BigDataCloud — receives your lat/lng to determine your city name (privacy policy)

• OpenStreetMap / Overpass API — receives your lat/lng to find nearby mosques (privacy policy)

• TimeAPI.io — receives your lat/lng to determine timezone for remote cities (website)

These services may also see your device's IP address as part of the network request. We do not control what these services do with the data they receive.

Google Fonts

Al-Murshid uses Google Fonts (Nunito, Amiri) which may be downloaded from Google's servers, exposing your device's IP address to Google. See Google Fonts Privacy FAQ.

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

Al-Murshid stores the following data on your device only using SharedPreferences and local storage:

• App settings (language, theme, calculation method, notification preferences)

• Cached prayer times for the current day

• Quran bookmarks and last-read position

• Tasbih counter progress

• Selected manual location (city name and coordinates)

• Cached timezone offset

This data is not transmitted to any server. Uninstalling the app or clearing app data deletes all of it permanently.

4. Permissions We Request

• Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION) — for prayer times, qibla, and nearby mosques. Optional — you can deny this and manually select a city.

• Internet (INTERNET) — required for weather, timezone lookup, nearby mosques, ad delivery, and font loading. Granted automatically by Android.

• Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — for prayer alerts and dhikr reminders. Optional.

• Exact Alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM) — for precise prayer time notifications. Optional.

• Wake Lock (WAKE_LOCK) — to wake the screen for prayer alarm notifications.

• Vibrate (VIBRATE) — for haptic feedback on tasbih counter and notifications.

• Boot Completed (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — to reschedule prayer alarms after device restart. No data is sent.

Location and Notification permissions are optional and can be denied. The app will function with reduced features without them.

5. Data Security

We do not collect or store personal data on any server. Locally stored data is protected by your device's built-in security. All network requests to third-party services use HTTPS encryption.

6. Your Rights 

Under GDPR and CCPA, you have the right to:

• Access your data — your local data is visible within the app settings and screens.

• Delete your data — uninstall the app or go to Settings → Apps → Al-Murshid → Clear Data.

Or you can permanently delete all your data at inside the app :

• 1. Open the Al-Murshid app

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap

  4. "Delete all my data"

  5. Confirm the deletion

• This permanently and immediately deletes all data from your device. This action cannot be undone.
  Alternatively, uninstalling the app removes all data automatically.Opt out of personalized ads — use your device's ad settings as described above.

• Restrict location sharing — deny location permission and use manual city selection instead.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of Al-Murshid after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
