SUNY New Paltz Biology
Mentor: Dr. Eric Keeling, Associate Professor Biology SUNY New Paltz
Topics: Phenology, Protocol Development
Not for credit. Developed a protocol for the submission of observation data to the National Phenology Network.
Phenology is the timing of events in plants.
I investigated the procedure for observation data submission to the National Phenology Network and developed a corresponding procedure for future students to follow.
This project was not for credit, but instead pursued in order to get a better understanding of phenology, learning how to independently develop a protocol while gaining an intimate understanding of the data and purpose, and to set up a future student to submit collected data.
While my contributions to the overall project were minimal, this was an incredible experience and was very educational, providing insights into another layer of the research process. This has allowed me to gain more experience in the process that preceeds a full research project, preparing me for this development process in my graduate experience.

Trees on the SUNY New Paltz campus near Old Main Quad
Separate from this project, it is noteworthy that the campus in which the phenology research has been and will continue to take place is a certified Tree Campus. Therefore, there are numerous tree species on campus. Many of these trees are being observed as a part of this project at a larger scale than what I was involved, but further increase the research potential for future students.
