Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process in which students learn skills and behaviors that relate to social settings and emotional domains. Social emotional learning involves student thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are vital for school, work, and life success. Social emotional learning contributes to a positive school climate and can help students become successful, both academically and personally.

The Academic domain includes strategies and activities that support student ability to learn. School counselors recognize and utilize student strengths and backgrounds to increase learning. Student academic success is promoted through educational opportunities and counselor practices that support academic growth.
The Career Domain focuses on connecting school and the world of work. A comprehensive counseling program helps students acquire the skills and knowledge needed to help students progress from school to work, making them productive citizens in real life. Students explore their strengths and weaknesses to help align their career choices and pathways.
School counselors respect the right to student privacy and protects all confidential information received from students, family, guardians, and school staff members.
School counselors must explain confidentiality in student friendly language to ensure comprehension.
