As someone who has always loved problem solving in the subjects of math and science, I have also found an interest in pursuing engineering as a future career. With my dad being an aeronautical engineer, he has encouraged me to seek engineering as it matches up with my interests and general strengths. Even at an early age, I have had an interest in math and science, and have always been curious to how things work and function, leading me to the path of engineering. I am specifically interested in pursuing environmental engineering as it is a great way to positively impact the environment, along with the problem solving aspect of engineering.
As of this year I am a Junior in the class of 2027 at Chopticon High School, and am enrolled in the JFCTC Engineering program. In this engineering program I am able to explore the different fields of engineering to gain experience and also decide which field I want to go into after high school. Out of the classes I have taken thus far, I have specifically done well and taken interest in my math and science classes. I am on the right path to take the classes necessary to succeed in the field of engineering, like the engineering program I am in which will give me experience and knowledge of engineering that I otherwise would not have. I have also taken other helpful classes like algebra 1 and 2, geometry, honors precalbiology, chemistry, AP physics 1, computer science, and both of my Spanish credits completed in middle school. In addition to these classes, I am taking multiple other AP classes which will assist me in college. Out of all of my classes I have achieved A's giving me a 4.1 GPA.
My participation in extracurricular activities so far has already made a big impact on my life which will prepare me for the career path of engineering. During my freshman and sophomore years I have participated in the sports which include cross country, winter track, and spring track. Being involved in these sports has taught me so far the importance of teamwork as well as working hard to achieve the goals I set. During my practices I have worked together with the members of my team so that we all can improve and grow together as a whole, but also made sure to work on myself in order to improve my pace and the times I get. Another example of an activity outside of school that has affected me has been my violin lessons that I take. By taking these lessons it has taught me the importance of hard work and consistency. In order to improve after each lesson I have to put the work into my practices as well as staying consistent with them, which is a skill necessary for success in engineering.
After my high school graduation, I plan on attending a four-year college and working towards an engineering degree. I do not yet know the major that I will be taking but I do know it will include a engineering path, which is currently leaning towards Environmental Engineering. Another possibility would be to do an internship before college to step into my engineering career. Although I don't fully know what college I plan on attending, I have the plan on getting my bachelor's degree at the four year college, and after starting a engineering job I will pursue my masters degree to gain further experience in my field of study.
After I complete college and attain a job in my field of engineering, I hope to positively affect my community by coming up with more efficient ways to conserve energy, and hopefully assist in designing ways to improve the environment. I will hopefully be impactful to society by contributing my ideas and engineering designs into the field which I will pursue. I will aspire to be a role model for other future engineers, with my impact on the world as a whole being positive and helpful to create a place that is better and more efficient for everyone.
