John Whitehead is the father in law of Jonas Allen. It seems important to know his background and ties to Jonas Allen.
Indians killed Nancy’s father during the move from North Carolina to Tennessee. On October 22, 1820, Abraham Kuykendall, the Justice of Peace in Franklin County, TN, married Sarah Wilson (25) and John Whitehead/Wited (55). Nancy was 7 years old. The marriage license states "that she be an actual reside of & in county" so, Sarah must have been living in Franklin, TN after the death of her first husband.
John Whitehead was born February 21, 1765 in Orange County NC. He enlisted in Hillsboro, NC as a Patriot in the Revolutionary War in the Winter/Spring of 1781 and served for 14 months.
By 1822, he and Sarah were living in Logan County and John owns 1 horse valued at $80.
In 1824, he is listed as John Wited on the Tax List. No other information is listed.
In 1825, John owns 40 acres on Red River valued at $145.
In 1826, he claims 1 white male over 21 years of age, 1 horse, and a total value of $40.
In 1828, John claims 1 white male over 21 years of age, 4 slaves over 10 years old, 5 slaves total, 9 horses, and his total value is $1570.
In 1829, John owns 1 horse, has 2 children ages 4 - 15, and his total value is $30. In February, Jonas and Nancy marry.
In 1830, John claims 1 male >21, 1 horse mare, 2 ?, 8?, 5?, 3?, 0? (other numbers not sure about), and his total value is $25.
According to the 1830 Census, there are 9 people living in the Whitehead household. More than likely, Jonas, Nancy, and Permelia are living with the Whiteheads in their Russellville home.

Sarah Wilson was born in North Carolina in 1795/96. Her last name is written as Willson on the marriage certificate. It is unknown whether this is her maiden name or previous married name. She lived in the Adairville and Keysburg areas. Sarah died February 25, 1863 (68) in the same epidemic as Jonas and Nancy.
John and Sarah had the following children:
Hansford Whitehead born February 26, 1823 in Logan County, married Eliza J. Morrow born November 7, 1828 in Simpson County in 1848. He was of Irish descent. Hansford was educated at Russellville College. At age 17, he started teaching in Logan and Simpson County and was a farmer. He was a pastor at Missionary Baptist Church. Hansford died on June 26, 1851 (29). Children were Anson/Orson Morrow and Mary Hanford. He is buried in Sulphur Springs Cemetery, Franklin, KY.
Louisa J. born by 1825, married Frazier Richardson and lived in Keysburg and Gordonsville.
Elizabeth born by 1827, married Calvin C. Crawford, a miller from North Carolina. They lived in Adairville and Keysburg.
Sarah Amanda born 1836, “unfortunate daughter”. Amanda was declared by the court as Idiot and received $50 a year from Logan Circuit Court.
