At the moment the cats are on the move where they will end up is unknown even to them.
The Old Tree Camp
Snow'Owl a cat who just joined the Treeroots clan is exploring the territory thinking to herself about if joining the clan life was the right thing to do. While she had lived a loner most of her life before joining the clan she had lived at an abandoned farm with her two siblings. She thinks about how she lived there for three years. She does supposed life been more exciting since joining Treeroots Clan but still was it worth it? She has seen things she did not know were even real, she did not know she had lived in a world so small before. Closing out of her thoughts she realized she had walked to the border of their clan. She looked around before walking down the border line and going back to her thoughts. She wondered if she was in a dream just a few moons ago, she was living the best life she could think she could live in the old barn. Now she is living a life without her siblings, a life she did not think would one day even come to mind. She had known time passed and she was far from a kit when she had lived with her whole family before the farm, but she had known that was many moons ago. As she walked down the border the sound of running water knocked her out of her thoughts. She started walking deeper into the territory in search of the running water. As she approached what looked to be a river as she got closer for a drink, they then wondered if they could try and fish for the first time. She sat there waiting for a fish to show itself in the shallow waters near her. Only a few minutes passed before Snow’Owl saw a small fish no bigger than her paw get closer to her spot. She got ready to pounce and not long after she jumped into the water in hopes to get the small fish. In a rush she had left a big splash in the water and Snow’Owl was swimming back to shore with no fish in her paws. She shakes her fur out and heads to back camp now soaking wet and still no clue on how to hunt fish. Her thoughts on her past life before the clan are long forgotten after embarrassment on what just happened even though no one saw.
Patrol 2
There was a young kit who wondered about the world. One day it went to ask its mother a question.
“Mother? Why do we live in this tree?” The small kit asked. The mother replied “Well young one there was once a cat who left the clan. This cat was known as Bee’Leaf. Bee’Leaf traveled far from their lands and one day stumbled around another cat who went by Line’Tail.” The small kit interrupted “Why do they have silly names?” The mother chuckled, “That I don't know young one.” She then continued on with her story. “The two traveled and they met with another cat. This cat was strange as it had the smell of two legs on them. This cat you know as Snow’Owl.” The mother cat looked off in the distance before looking back at the kit. “Are you sure you want to know this story?” She asked the kid with sadness in her eyes. The now confused kit looked at his mother. “Yes, I do want to know this story?” He asked with hesitance. The mother cat sighs and replies “Okay if you think you can hear this story out then I will continue to tell it.”
The mother cat looked back out at the distance as she contented with her tale. “The three of them became great friends exploring the world together. Till one day Bee’Leaf and Line’Tail wanted to start a clan of their own. Snow’Owl did not know what a clan was and did not like the idea of lots of cats together so they left going back to where they came from. The rumor is that Snow’Owl went back to a two leg barn where their litter mates were but only Snow’Owl knows the truth behind it. So Bee’Leaf and Line’Tail started their own clan in a mangrove forest far from here. At the time the two had let anyone in their clan live in the roots of a tree. Where there were tunnels all around them. One day Snow’Owl had come back but they were different then before there was sadness coming from their eyes. To cheer them up Bee’Leaf and Line’Tail invited them into the clan to show them around. Moons went by and the three friends were happy. Till the rain turned the grass white. A family of foxes had come to the camp and driven the clan out.”
The kit quickly replied in a scared tone. “Mother! What has happened, is everyone alright!?” “If you just keep on listening you will know.” The mother cat replied with. She then continued with her tale. “The clan had ran and ran and the clan cats had lost each other. Snow’Owl had led a small part of the clan to a clearing where there was an old oak tree that laid in the middle. There they had climbed the tree to make it a home of the small amount of cat that were left. The tree aloud for cats to see miles ahead so we know when danger arises. There was a problem though with the new lands. Bee’Leaf and Line’Tail were nowhere to be seen and Snow’Owl still knew nothing much of clan life but they still stayed with us and helped us live in the tree so we can see all that's around us. That is why we are in this tree today, young one.” The mother cat looked down wondering why it had gone quiet and there lay a young kit who must have fallen asleep around the end of the story she also watched as a soaked black and white cat walked back home.
Patrol 3
A few days have passed after Snow’Owl walked around the clan territory and failed to catch a fish. They decided to go on a walk again this time a cat followed them behind.
A young tan rosetted tabby walked up to Snow’Owl. “Say Snow’Owl have you heard of the withered forest?” The tan cat asked. Snow’Owl looked backed and replayed “No I have not? Mind telling me what it is?” The other cat giggled. “Sure will let you know it's a kits tale.” “That's fine you can talk about it while we walk the clan borders.” Snow’Owl replied, looking forward and walking on. The tan cat's voice became harsher as they started their story. “The withered forest is where cats of the dead roam. The trees around their whisper in your ears all the wrong you have done in your life. They say things like Snow’Owl why did you leave them behind. You should have been the one in that building, the one that the fire had eaten, not them.” Snow’Owl looked back and replied in an upset tone. “I don’t know how you got that information but now is not the time we got things to do. You can countune your tale but do not bring my past life into it.” She then looked back at the path ahead and started walking again. The tan cat continued their story. “The stories the trees tell the cats drive them mad to the point they attack anyone they see from the living on the spot. That's if the living finds themself there. No one knows how to get to the withered forest or how to leave it. Once you are there it's a maze. The trees move with your paws and the ground all withered away so it looks all the same. The water has turned black with the plants all dead, but the trees continue to live. There is no day or night there and your shadow will follow you even with no light. You will walk on and on with no idea of how many moons have passed.”
Snow’Owl felt a chill go down their back when the grass at their paws withered away but they kept on walking thinking nothing of it. There was a grin the tan cat had that Snow’Owl could not see.“They say while you're there you find yourself like this just how we are walking and talking with no idea where we are. Say Snow’Owl where is the sun right now?” Snow’Owl looked around the sky. It was light and dark at the same time but there were no clouds, sun, moon, or stars. Her heart started to get faster as she looked behind her for the tan cat. There was no one there. In a few moments she started to run till the point she blacked out.
-Tumped the sound of something falling- Snow’Owl wakes up on the ground by the roots of the clan tree. A small kit runs up to her. “You silly Snow! You fell asleep on a tree branch again!” He giggled. “You were also talking to yourself. Also, what's the Wither Forest you keep on talking about?” Snow owl looked at the kit. “I don’t know? Someone told me it's a kit tale, you know nothing of it?” The kit shook its head. “I think you're starting to hear ghost Snow. I have heard all the kit tales, nothing of the wither forest. Also, I was told to tell you to go check the borders! Have fun!” The little kit ran off. Snow’Owl looks up there was a sun in the sky and so where the clouds. Hoping what just happened was a dream they got up to walk the borders. This time no cat followed behind.
Patrol 4
Fox’Tail lay in the tree hiding away while looking down at Snow’Owl who was talking with a kit. It's a new day, a new day to try to get rid of Snow’Owl. Fox’Tail hopped down from the tree to start walking around the tratory in hopes of seeing something that might work or give them an idea on what to do. He ended up leaving the tratory to wander the forest; it would be easier to find something without another cat knowing or watching his every move. Fox’Tail wonder deep into the woods looking around there were mushrooms and other stuff. Till they saw a plant that “Mother” told them to never get near when they were a kit. It was a Henbane plant. The only problem is how are they going to bring it back without touching it. Fox’Tail decided to start walking back without the plant; there might be some on the border of the clan around the forests they could lead Snow’Owl to. As they walk around the border, they see Snow’Owl mumbling to them self. Fox’Tail watch from behind listening in to their conversation Snow’Owl was having with herself. Snow’Owl kept on mumbling about some dream they had the other night; it was as if they were hearing things or seeing things. That brought a grin to Fox’Tail face as they left Snow’Owl and headed back to camp. Fox’Tail knows that Snow’Owl knows little of the outside world that can be just what they need to drive them away.
Patrol 5
The long night and short days are coming upon the clan. The winds of the night tell tales of the past and some say they even tell you the future. Snow’Owl sat there one of the long nights getting ready to leave before the sun rose up. The need for prey was greater than before with the winds telling the cats of the long cold night ahead of them self. The cold night met there will be little prey wondering the nights and days. Snow’Owl got up and gather Pony’Tail to join them for this long night. Pony’Tail then informed Fox’Tail to guard the camp while they were out. Snow’Owl and Pony’Tail then left the camp to walk the borders and find something for the prey pile and themselves.
With the night still young Pony’Tail speaks “Snow’Owl if you don't mind me breaking this quiet night?” “You may go on, but we must keep walking while you do.” Replied Snow’Owl not once looking back. “That works with me. I must ask why does your fur smell of flame and ash?” Asked Pony’Tail with a worried expression. Snow’Owl stop for a moment looking down and in a harshed toned replied. “You may not ask that all you need to know is that the past is long gone and the smell of flame and ash will stay as long as we walk the plains of my lands.” Snow’Owl then went back to walking now a little faster then before. Pony’Tail looked over with sadness in their eyes. “Are we not sisters who share the lands with other cats?” She asked. Snow’Owl who slowed back down replied. “We are not sisters, we do not share the same kin but we do share the lands. I'm sorry you see that the smell of flame and ash is a touchy subject for me.” “I see I will not bring it up but do tell me there a good reason when you're up to it. I will lead the clan once you run with the winds. I must know the past of the founders if I wish to help the clan grow with are roots.” Replied Pony’Tail.
“That is true but only time will tell if I can walk around the fields then I will walk around the past as much as I can. You can know that I have seen and heard things that most cats say are not real, that the shadows do not talk, the cats of these lands say I am going mad. I must ask what do you know of the shadows that talk and the trees that misguide you?” Asked Snow’Owl who now stopped looking at Pony’Tail right in the eyes. Pony’Tail felt fear as their leader looked them in the eyes. “I know of no shadows or trees that misguide you. One thing I can say is there are stories and tales saying the agent leaders of a clan far from here can see the evil of others and the longer that evil lengers around them the worse it gets. There may be a chance that you are the old kin of that cat if that, so there one that will only do harm in are clan.” Pony’Tail says in a worried tone. Snow’Owl looked around before walking on. “We must keep going, we have long ways to go but while we walk I have heard of those stories from my kin. I do also believe there are only tales to keep kits good are they not?” “That is true I also had heard the tales from my kin long before they took me away and the little I remember of. I believe every story you have heard had to start from somewhere while the tales may not be true there are parts of it I believe are.” Pony’Tail replied. Snow’Owl then hums a little before asking “You say your kin told you before you were taken? By any chance, what was your name back in your old life? If you don't mind me asking.” Pony’Tail looks off in the distance before replying “I do not mind but I do not remember an old name before I join the clan life. I had fallen off something I believe that makes my memory a little fuzzy.” Snow’Owl looks a little sad while replying “I see that is fine. I thought you were or had known who I am seeking out for. If your memory is fuzzy you will not know as it's from when I was a kit long before this clan or the members of it.”
The rest of the night was quiet as the moon started to set. The two cats were able to hunt a rabbit to bring back to the clan and one for themselves to eat before needing to be back. The two cats that looked alike and showed sadness in their eyes were now safely back at camp with a Fox’Tail looking at them annoyed and probably plotting something and a Doe’Eyes looking annoyed at the prey they brought back as they hid their own little rabbit friend away in their tail.
Patrol 6
The snow in the fields covers the ground. More of the white softness falls from the sky as the sound of footsteps is heard walking up to the large tree the clan calls home. Doe’Eyes runs up to Snow’Owl as they walk back to the clan.
Doe’Eyes speaks “Oh thank the stars above your back Snow’Owl! There is a new layer of snow coming and it is not safe out there while it falls. Did you find anything while you were out?” Snow’Owl nods their head no. “There is nothing out there, not even a scent as if there is something coming for the longer snow days ahead of us. All the prey has just vanished before us…” Snow’Owl informs Doe’Eyes. With fear in her eyes Doe’Eyes replies “You don’t mean… You said when we got here no cat would need to leave! We could live here in all four seasons as the years go by!” She roars out in anger.
“Look I know you're not happy about it neither am I but you have no say in this… Look just… Stay here, I am calling a meeting.” Snow’Owl walks off leaving Doe’Eyes alone. Doe’Eyes just stares at Snow’Owl bewilder by the words they just said… What had happen to there once trusting leader who cared for all and always follow through with their promises. Doe’Eyes walks to the nursery and lays there hugging their squirrel friend and keeping them safe ready to keep an ear out on the meeting knowing they were not allowed to be there.
“All cats who can fight their own fights come and gather below the tree's protection and hear what it is, I have to say.” Snow’Owl looks down at the cats as she roars out to the cats. “The snow this year brings too many layers. The prey has run from the lands and so must we. What little food we have cannot feed us all this hard snowfall season. So, in two dusk times we will leave for the journey ahead of us. There will be foes who will not let us through the paths, but we will find a way around them, and we will find new lands to find peace at. For now, we will share what we have and get ready for the long travels ahead of us.”
Doe’Eyes continues to lay in her nest… They are traveling in two dusk time… That's not a lot of time she heard of one the cats trying to remove Snow’Owl of the leader position should she talk with? So many thoughts race through her head before she drifts off to sleep trying to get her mind off of it.
Pony’Fur walks off after the meeting is over. Something not right with Snow’Owl there was plenty of prey yesterday… But their leader making it sound like there been nothing for many dusk times. Plus, the past few hunts sure the snow makes it hard to hunt but they brought at least something back every time. Pony’Fur finds a spot in the sun before looking up at the snow falling down. She wonders for different reasons on why they might move from their beloved home… Was there by chance something out there that Snow'Owl was looking for someone or were they hiding from something she wonders before getting up to something productive before the snowfall becomes harder.
Fox’Tail stayed in the branches above the leader as they spoke about them moving. He wonders what led them to wanting to move. All the cats in the clan knew that prey would last to the end of the snowfall so what was going on he had to question himself. That's when it hit him Snow’Owl was hiding from something or someone. They are often seen alone yet still talking to someone and talking about how it was coming back. Perhaps this journey is just what Fox’Tail needed to remove Snow’Owl from the leader position. He jumps down after all the cats walk off to do their own thing. He heads to the prey pile and picks something up. If Snow’Owl wants to make up stories then Fox’Tail will make them come true. He heads to the lake and throws the few prey in it before heading back to the camp knowing the snow will cover his tracks back up. Unknowing to him on the other side of the lake lay two bright yellow eyes watching him.
The moon starts to set as Doe’Eyes gets up to watch the clan in the nighttime and the rest of the clan heads off to their nest getting ready for the long cold days ahead of them. Doe’Eyes sits and at the end of one the trees roots watching as the moon slowly moves. The night was quite other than the sound of an owl and the leaves rustling in the background. In the rustling leaves laid the yellow eyes watching the cats but staying out of sight. There was now one dusk left before the cats had to move on to new lands.
