THIS IS ME IN A NUT-SHELL

I’m a husband, father, movie and book enthusiast, and researcher.

My name is Alireza Erfanian. a research engineer at nic.at. Holding a Ph.D. from Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt (AAU) since 2023. I am passionate about exploring diverse realms within the technology landscape. My focus areas include Internet security, cloud computing, multimedia communication and adaptation, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NVF), 5G networks, machine learning, and optimization.

I am an experienced developer with a demonstrated history of 14 years of working experience in the industry. Moreover, I have worked in the computer networks field for over seven years as administrator of a network with more than 4000 clients over 60 branches.

I am always looking for the right way to get something done and achieve it. I love to learn new things and have a passion for improving every day. I want to do my best in everything I set out to do.

Back Story

When I was a bachelor's student in computer engineering, I made my way into the industry. First, starting out as a programmer in the IT organization of Mashhad/Iran Municipality. Immediately after graduating from university with a bachelor's degree, I got a full-time job as a developer. After that, I went to the IT department of the justice ministry and stayed there for more than 12 years. I started my job there as a developer; however, I quickly got promoted to senior software development engineer due to my hardworking and experience. After around six years, I found my interest in the Computer Networking field and worked my way into the network department. Many years of experience in programming, development, and leadership helped me rapidly get the senior network administrator position.

In 2014, I started a master's program in computer engineering and defended my master's thesis in 2017. The research fulfillment enticed me to pursue a research career, and after years in the industry and having gone through multiple opportunities, some good and some bad, I left my full-time job to venture on new word. In 2019, I started a Ph.D. program at the Information Technology (ITEC) department of Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Austria. Besides it, I work as a researcher in the ATHENA and 5G PlayGround projects.

A few fun facts

I play with my kids, enjoy cooking, and help my wife with household chores in my free time.

Moreover, I have a passion for reading and movies. My favorite subjects are philosophy and psychology. Mainly, I like the eastern and middle eastern philosophies. Also, my favorite directors are Nolan, Tarantino, Spielberg, Scorsese, and Coppola.
