As apart of my New Visions Life Science class I visited Nellies Knoll Creamery. There we ultrasounded goats with Dr. Mary Smith. We ultrasounded 30 goats and then estimated due dates of confirmed pregnant goats.
I was able to go Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville. I got to spend one day a month for the school year. My focus is mainly in exotics and I loved it. The veternarian was extremly nice and taught me so much. I was able to see a coati, kangaroos and a squirrel monkey. We did surgery on the squirrel monkey to sew up a wound and trimmed 7 beaks and nails of various birds. This is exactly the field I want to go into and being able to do things was so amazing and I am so fortunate.
Cayuga Pet Hospital is a small animal practice. I was able to shadow the doctors and technicians. My mom owns this practice but it was nice to be able to shadow.
I was able to rotate through Cornell Vet Hospital through my New Visions class. I saw: opthalmology, cardiology, large animal surgery, large animal medicine, neurology, and small animal surgery. I was extremely lucky to be able to scrub in a neurology surgery!
I do not have any picture froms these rotations but Adana is a small animal clinic with routine procedures. I got to shadow the doctors and I learned restraints and a lot of general knowledge.
