THIS ENGINE WAS SOLD as an assembled long block (assembled block, cylinder head, flywheel). The new owner will be replacing the original 1.6L engine in his 1972 Alfa GT after adding twin Webers and exhaust header to this long block.
Here is a summary of the work done:
I have always wanted to build an Alfa engine myself, so when I had the opportunity to do so I couldn't pass it up. I am not a professional mechanic, but know my way around an engine. There's something about the Alfa Nord engines--they are incredibly elegant and well-engineered. Overall, this motor was a pleasure to work on.
Not being a professional, I relied heavily on many different resources to make certain that the engine was rebuilt to a high standard. Of course, the Alfa Romeo Giulia-Spider Owner's Workshop Manual from Brooklands Books was invaluable, as was the series of lengthy and detailed videos from Scuderia Silva. And without a doubt, the friendly and willing Alfisti from the Alfa Bulletin Board were a huge help when I had questions or needed good advice. So in reality, this engine was built with the collective wisdom of many Alfa experts, so the quality of the end product should be no surprise.
This site will showcase the rebuild of a 2.0L Nord twin-cam Alfa Romeo engine AR00512-75707 from 1972/73. While not exactly a step-by-step tutorial, it is intended to visually demonstrate the care and attention to detail that went into the build, as well as important details that will be hidden to the eye once the engine is completed.
