Alex Viegut, Ph.D.
Hi! I'm Alex (she/her). I am an assistant professor of Psychology at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
My research draws on cognitive science, developmental psychology, and mathematics education. Currently, I focus primarily on measuring and supporting students' understanding of fractions, especially through visual models. A second line of my work focuses on how and why fraction knowledge supports success in algebra. My goal is to cultivate partnerships with teachers and schools to support students' success.
I enjoy mentoring undergraduates in research experiences, and I teach educational and developmental psychology classes. Outside of work, I enjoy getting outside for a hike or jog, playing piano, and watching baking/cooking shows!
