My background and experience
My wife, Barbara, and I spent many years living in Virginia, where we raised our three children. Once our youngest graduated from college and moved out, we began searching for the perfect place to enjoy our later years. On my sister’s recommendation, we visited Sarasota in the fall of 2020—and instantly fell in love with the area. That visit set the wheels in motion for our move south. Initially, we rented a house in Palm Aire while exploring the region. Then, we discovered our current home listed for sale.
Despite working with agents for several months, we were never shown any properties in The Meadows. However, just one drive through this stunning community convinced us to make an offer on the house that very same day. Having since explored numerous neighborhoods throughout Sarasota and beyond, we are confident we made the right decision to put down roots here in The Meadows.
Before relocating from Virginia to The Meadows, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. Later, I pursued an Advanced Certificate in Information Technology from Catholic University. Combined with numerous industry certifications, this education enabled me to build a 30-plus-year career supporting the Information Technology (IT) needs of federal and local governments. For more than half of that time, I collaborated directly with CEOs, CIOs, and other organizational leaders. My career has been a balance between managing large teams of IT professionals and providing technical leadership to the organizations I served.
Following the housing crash of 2008, I saw an opportunity to invest in the Florida residential housing market. From Virginia, I began purchasing, renovating, renting, and managing properties. By building a trusted and competent team, I successfully navigated the challenges of remote property management. My skills in investment analysis, project management, and teamwork have helped me complete various housing projects effectively. After moving to Sarasota, I have continued to acquire and manage rental homes while maintaining my full-time IT career.
My Involvement with the MCA
Over a year ago, I began attending MCA Board meetings regularly. Often, I was the only property owner speaking at these meetings, addressing concerns I believed were important to the community. Although I had heard of challenges in the relationship between the MCA and TMCC, it wasn’t until April 2024 that I fully grasped the magnitude of these issues.
Recognizing the lack of engagement and transparency at these meetings, I began recording them to review and share with others in the community. While the audio quality of the earlier recordings was challenging, recent videos have improved significantly. These recordings are available at https://tinyurl.com/MCA-Videos.
During poorly advertised board meetings, I observed a tendency by some Board members attempt to maintain a very low owner awareness of the Board's proceedings. To help improve awareness, I teamed up with the person managing the ForTheMeadows blog, a valuable resource for community members. Several of the meeting videos have garnered substantial interest, including over 280 views for the October 30th meeting.
