Designed and constructed a dress for an international ad campaign for Freed of London entitled, Aged before beauty. The dress toured cities and was on display in New York, London, Tokyo, and Osaka.
Growing up I was training to become a professional ballet dancer and it was my consumption from dancing that inspired me. Ballet is what molded me as a person and my passion for dancing sustained my life.
I recycled the pointe shoes of my past and used the shapes from draping with them. The life of a pointe shoe mirrors that of a dancer. As the days pass the shoes take the stresses from dancing in them. The wear and tear finally “break” the shoes and the dancer cannot use them anymore. The life of a pointe shoe is very short.
I flattened, molded, and deconstructed the pointe shoes to find how the shapes form on the body. The pointe shoes are made out of canvas, burlap, glue, silk, and cardboard and the fabrics in my 3 look collection are inspired by the materials found in point shoes.
