The Cultural Crafts Centre
Encouraging the teaching of cultural crafts within a community
Encouraging the teaching of cultural crafts within a community
Year 2. Project 1.
The brief for this project was to design a community pavilion on London Road in Sheffield inspired by the term 'making'. My aim was to bring together the diverse community of London Road by creating a community space to share and teach international crafts. This was with a desire to preserve traditional crafts by encouraging peer-led workshops from the elder residents of London Road to share and teach these traditional crafts to both the communities younger and elder residents. The project featured a modern reimagination of a Japanese Hogyo roof structure with the interior holding a large workspace with tables, a kiln room to fire pottery, two bathrooms, a small kitchen and a mezzanine.
