My favorite vocal mics are the following (in no particular order):
Shure SM58
Shure SM7B
Neumann U87
Neumann TLM102
Electro Voice RE20
This mic is better for speech than singing
For advanced vocalists, this technique can be very informational. To be honest, this is how I got my start figuring out how to get a greater high and low range, and how to get different tones out of my voice, and you can too! We will talk in a lesson about how exactly to do these things, but if you want to sound like Adele or Bruce Springsteen in a pinch, do a quick Google image search and look for pictures of them doing vowel sounds. Pay attention to their nose position, jaw position, and facial expression and try to duplicate those things when you sing. In addition to the techniques we talk about in lessons, these images of great singers can be good reference points. Don't forget to use a mirror or camera to see yourself and do immediate and direct comparisons to how the singer looks in the image!
