Alessandro Brillo

Nice to meet you!

I'm an artist and designer from Rome, Italy, with a big passion for curating meaningful videogame experiences. My passion lies in telling stories - be it through art, design, narratives and mechanics.

I am now pursuing the Honour year at Abertay University in Game Design and Production (check out my project - The Favour)!

Interests

I have a big passion for the Japanese language and culture, which began around 2015, when I was only 13 years old. I have self-studied the language for several years, after which I attended lessons and a study trip in Japan in 2018. My knowledge and passion is reflected in the games I love and the games I write and create.
I routinely take part in hobby translation of comics and video games from Japanese to English.

I have experience with oil painting recreationally and for my Fine Art A-level. This inspires my artistic style to this day.

I have a strong intellectual interest in queer and indie game theory, which I have written several papers on during university. I enjoy the process of research, both through reading, playing and creating. Being transgender, I would like to bring a positive change in the societal view of the LGBTQ+ community through the content I create.

I also love travelling, and I have been to more than 15 countries around the world.

Education

I frequented the Farnesina Liceo in Rome from September 2016 to June 2018, where I pursued education within the italian school system studying several subjects such as Physics, italian and english literature, history, latin, and more.

After the first two years, I changed schools into an internation, english-taught one, New School Rome, which I attended from September 2018 to June 2020. There, I helped teach primary school pupils on the Computer Science course in Scratch, and pursued 3 A levels - Mathematics (A), Fine Art (A), Computer Science (A*), and one IGCSE in First Language English (A*).

After graduating high school I moved to Scotland, and from September 2020 to May 2024, I pursued a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in BA (Hons) Game Design and Production at Abertay University, in Dundee. Here I took part in modules which include Game Art Production, User Interfaces and Interaction Design, and Gameplay and Narrative Design. My third year professional project “The Revenge List” was mentored by Rockstar Games. I also took part in the professional testing initiative “Abertesters”.
