The image represents a composition I made as part of my Gender and Society course at Lehigh during my sophomore year in the fall. I looked into students’ use of sustainable menstrual products as a data set for a data visceralization final project. I wanted to convey how the tendency to experience fear or hesitancy towards the use of reusable menstrual products is mostly an internalized issue, not necessarily a response to outside judgement. I depicted these manifestations of fear in the piece by having the woman be pointed at by different, distorted versions of herself. I find that the trees are a compelling message in how deep-rooted her thoughts where it prevents her from using the product she holds in her hand.
