I mostly spend my time illustrating with graphite or lead pencil in my spare time in order to work on shading the darker and lighter regions in my work. In this piece, The Girl Under the Umbrella, I had the freedom to work off of a monochrome reference photo in order to add detail to the little girl on the porch. To illustrate the pouring rain, I used a kneading eraser to remove the shading to portray water dripping from the umbrella. I decided to create this kind of perspective of the girl sitting against a beam with her back turned since it suited the image much better. I enjoy putting effort into my illustrations because I am particular about attention to detail and I seek to improve my own skills in that field.
