The instructions below are for individuals attending ALC14 as audience members. If you are giving a talk please find the presenter instructions here.
Follow the links and enter the appropriate passwords to join the Zoom session and mute yourself when you enter the room.
Make sure your name displays properly when you enter the meeting; you may want include the following information:
Your preferred name and pronouns
Affiliation
Position
To rename yourself, right click on your screen or click the "..." button on your self video. You do not have to have your video camera on to accomplish this; moreover, you are not required to have your video on at all if you would prefer to leave it off. As a reminder, we will be recording each presentation.
Please mute yourself when you enter the Zoom session. Session hosts have the authority to mute your microphone should you forget to do so. We ask that you remain muted for the entirety of the presenter’s talk and save questions for the Q&A session.
Presenters will likely share their screens during their talks, but you can access “hard copies” of slides and handouts via the ALC shared drive folder. Links will be sent to the emails provided by registered attendees; the session chair will also post the link in the Zoom chat before each session.
If you have a question you would like to ask the speaker, you should send a private message to the session chair in the chat. At the end of the speaker’s talk, the session chair will call on audience members to address the speaker. Audience members will ask their questions in the order in which they message the session chair, so make note of your question and alert the chair as soon as it comes to you.
Select the chair as the recipient of your message using the dropdown menu in the chat window.
It is helpful to tag questions with “QUESTION”.
Unmute yourself when the chair gives you the floor and mute yourself when you are done asking your question.
Please do not use the chat feature for other purposes.
If you would like your question to remain anonymous, please indicate that to the session chair and type your question as you’d like them to ask it on your behalf.
You can review the ALC14 Code of conduct here.
We hope that these instructions will alleviate any technical worries you might have and outline our vision for the conference. Please feel free to contact us at arizonalinguisticscircle14@gmail.com if other questions arise.
