Dr. Avis Johnson-Smith is the founder and owner of Healthy Kids and Families Wellness Center, LLC, a nurse practitioner clinic that provides primary care, developmental, behavioral, and mental health services for patients from birth – 22 years of age. She received a Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree from the University of Minnesota, Master of Science Degree in Nursing with a Maternal Child focus from Troy State University - Montgomery, Post Master’s Pediatric/Adolescent Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Emory University, and Post Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Albany State University. Dr. Johnson-Smith also completed a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Fellowship through Ohio State University in addition to completing continuing education training through Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatry Academy. She is nationally board certified as a Pediatric/Adolescent Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist. Dr. Johnson-Smith is committed to providing the best possible personalized care for her patients and their families. She is also committed to empowering them to reach their optimal physical and mental well-being, so they can thrive and live their best life!
In addition to providing direct patient care and working with patient families, Dr. Johnson-Smith serves as professor and Family Nurse Track Coordinator for an online nurse practitioner program at Angelo State University. She enjoys teaching future nurse practitioners how to care for patients and their families.
Dr. Johnson-Smith enjoys spending time with her husband and business partner Aubrey Smith, son Aubrey Jr. and stepdaughter Shaun.
