You could never go wrong with John Philip Sousa. I chose "The Thunderer" because I felt I had much musical freedom to incorporate into this piece. Then, I conducted this piece in front of all of Southeast Alaska at the Region V Music Festival!
Merry Christmas! I conduct two pieces in this concert! Shostokavich's Waltz No. 2 and A Holiday Sing-A-Long arranged by John Moss. However, I think you should watch all of it!
Senior year now, and I again showcased my skill to the community by conducting a piece called Black Forest Overture by Michael Sweeney. I had free reign over experiment with different musicalities and what I was comfortable with what I wanted to do with this piece.
The first time I have ever did this. The process was a struggle, but I loved every second of it. This concert was when I showcased my skill to my commmunity with Brian Balmage's Kyiv 2022, which I had the honor to rehearse and perform it with the Petersburg High School concert band. It was exciting and also a huge learning experience.
