Alanya (Abbie Mason) comes from a theatrical family and has been dancing since the age of three, training in Classical Ballet (RAD) and Jazz Dance. She has been a student of Belly Dance since 2003, and a professional tutor since 2009.
Belly Dance
Alanya regularly attends, performs and teaches at national (UK) Belly Dance events.
She continues her professional development with visiting Egyptian dance legends including Nagwa Fouad, Raqia Hassan and Aida Nour,
and internationally renowned dancers such as Ozgen, UK pioneer Josephine Wise, and the Senior Tutors at BellyDance Now (formerly the Josephine Wise Academy of Arabic Dance [JWAAD]).
Alanya holds a JWAAD Diploma in Teaching Arabic Dance; is a Level 2 Mentor,
and a member of the BellyDance Now Teachers' Network.
As well as performing as a soloist, Alanya leads her student performance troupe Egyptienne,
performing at events in Herefordshire and surrounding areas.
She is currently developing her Beginner Level performance troupe The Rosehips.
Alanya is available for tuition and performance, including workshops, parties, weddings, events,
demonstrations and children's activity parties. Hip belts and veils can be provided for group participation.
Dance for Health
Alanya promotes dance through various local and national health & wellbeing initiatives, and has developed
her own programmes for communities and care homes:
Move with the Groove Dance Exercise; Footloose! Aerobic Dance;
Seated Ballet and Gentle Belly Dance
aimed at promoting lifelong mobility and dance fun.
