My development as a potential nurse leader and manager has continued during semester 2 of the nursing leadership and management programme. This semester has further enhanced my knowledge and skills in many aspects of leadership and management, building upon the foundation that was set in the previous semester.
This semester's key fields of study included strategic planning and change management in healthcare institutions. I am able to think critically and make well-informed decisions about establishing goals, and putting evidence-based practises into action. In addition, I have learned ideas and strategies for change management that will be quite helpful when guiding teams through organisational changes and upgrades.
Moreover, I've had the chance to learn more about the ethical and legal implications of nursing leadership and management. The Nursing Ethics course has provided the insights at ethical decision-making applications, ethical dilemmas and case scenarios in the healthcare sector (such as Moral distress, Medical assistance in Dying); and the role of nurse managers in promoting ethical conduct in patient care.
Futhermore, in this semester by learning about Human Resource Management in Healthcare, I have gained knowledge about staff development, staff performance appraisel, and conflict managment techniques. These abilities are crucial for encouraging teamwork, managing staff effectively, and creating a healthy work atmosphere in healthcare work settings.
My understanding of healthcare has significantly expanded as a result of the Community and Population Nursing Course, and I am now better able to see how socioeconomic determinants of health and population health have an impact on overall wellbeing. As a community health nurse what job opportunities and responsibilites are offered in this field of nursing, I have gained a greater understanding of the value of health promotion, disease prevention, and working for equal roghts and access to care through profound experiences and dealing with different populations.
Overall, I feel like my comprehension of the challenges and responsiblities of nursing leadership and management, has improved during Semester 2. My willingness and confidence in having the ability to support healthcare organisations, advocating for patients and healthcare professionals, and promote positive transformations, have improved my nursing practice skills and my overall personality as a Nurse. In order to advance as a leader in nursing field, I am excited to put all of the skills and expertise I have acquired throughout my nursing career into practise. To Learn and Grow!
